§

I first thought of this category while studying Zen. Sitting by Zen practitioners is the primary activity used to gain "enlightenment" --which may be nothing more than realizing and practicing the awareness of impermanence of all things observed by the human mind. Preaching, practices, habits and events may be here today but will surely, at some point, disappear from our perceptions. Sitting is normally done in a kneeling or lotus position, in a quiet, sometimes reverent place, called a Zendo. In my practice, I've come to realize that, although a formal sitting place has an advantage of experiencing a special kind of group energy, it is not necessary to sit in a Zendo to seek enlightened. Hence the photographs of "Places to Sit".
